Day 1 - Stanley Park and Capilano Suspension Bridge

Welcome to the 2022 Vancouver Island Blog! Each day the girls will take turns updating everyone on what we did today. Today’s post was written by Claire. Sorry for the late update but as your are about to learn, yesterday was jam packed.

Today started off super duper exciting with all the extra long lines. We all arrived at 4:30 am to a really busy airport. Lot’s of people. We tried to get in the group line, but apparently Air Canada is silly and doesn’t do that line, even through there was a sign. After we eventually got threw the bag drop line, we went to Caroline’s favourite, security line! We waited for another long time before getting threw it and getting to our flight. We then went on a flight after filling our funky fresh water bottles.

We met Celeste and Shawna and then got all our bags (they all came). Then we waited a loooong time while Shawna and Tara went to get the rental van. Me and Caroline got slushies while we waited.

The first highlight of the day was Tara spotting some logs… THAT WERE FLOATING!!! We also had to crank the air conditioning in the van because it was totally toasty. We then went to Stanley Park. First, we stopped at a viewing point (Prospect Point) which was kinda cool. Here are some of the photos.

We then parked a little farther down and started to walk towards the sea wall while Tara went to pick up groceries. First we walked to another look out point. But then someone, Elizabeth, spotted a racoon in a nearby tree. We all then ooo-ed and aww-ed at it for a while before going to the seawall path that led to the beach.

Along the way we saw a bunch of hanging worms and also a big slug. Once we got down to the beach some of us caught some crabs and formed a ‘crunter’ gang (crab hunter). While we caught a pretty gnarly crab, Shawna took a tumble into a nearby mini pool. She was then covered in mud :(.

After another short walk, we drove to Granville Island to explore and have lunch.  We checked out the public market, local shops, and another gang was formed, the cool sun glasses gang.

(tiny entrance to the kids toy store)

Next we visited the Capilano suspension bridge, where we crossed it to do the tree top walk, a series of bridges in the tall trees.  We had too much time so we invented stair lunging games before doing the cliff walk.  Sadly we had to say goodbye to Shawna who was driving back to Kelowna later that night.

After the bridge park and Wendy’s we took a short drive to the ferry terminal. Due to delays we had to resort to leg fighting games in the grass area and people-watched all the cars. This is how we miraculously found my doppleganger who happened to be a man! We then boarded the ferry and watched the sunset, we even saw seals and some of us saw orcas too!! We had a quick dance party on the boat, and birthed the roller coaster pose and then drove to the hall (IN THE VAN NOT THE BOAT). We set up our beds and went to sleep.

Stay tuned for tomorrows amazing blog!!!!

  7. Wow, what a great first day! Seals, orcas, raccoons and floating logs! I especially like the various games you’ve created and I’m surprised at the many gangs created all within your little troupe. Can’t wait to read about the adventures from day 2.
